Reflective statement on developing the Strategic Marketing Plan with a team
Before I started working on assignment 2 with my group mates, I expected the unit to be more theory based. I was aware about the fact that I would be working on an assignment that required me to analyze an actual business and to present it to the actual client. As I started working in a team with my group mates It helped me gain different perspectives and view points on why the client’s business wasn’t doing well. The team experience helped me be patience and understand different opinions and interconnect them. It helped me build my team working skills which are very important as no one works alone. Working together in harmony is crucial to any take that needs to be performed by many people. I learned that the task cannot be 100 percent equally divided as different people will contribute based on their strongest skills. It also helped me communicate better with my group mates about what needed to be done and how it needed to be done. I learned how to communicate without coming across as aggressive or mean-spirited. It also helped me better my organizing skills when planning group meetings and setting deadlines for the tasks.
After completing the unit, I have gained insight into how businesses run. After successfully completing the assignment 2 that required me to critically analyze the organization and come up with effective strategies that can help them gain more clients and make a profit. I have experience with dealing with actual clients and having a run through about their business model. This makes me an asset to an organization as I have appropriate experience dealing with businesses that are not financially secure and have contingency plans. This unit also helped me grow my presenting skills and I have the confidence to present appropriate plans and strategies to potential clients. My real-life work experience will make me a good candidate for the employers.
I expected marketing strategy and planning to be based on marketing ideas of businesses and how to improve them. I expected the unit to be focused only on that aspect. The unit has surprised me positively with the various different learning topics taught throughout the semester. I learned about segmentation and targeting which I did not assume would be important in marketing but learned how wrong target audience with correct strategies can have bad results. The unit also provided me with a lot of real-life experience as I got to present the new proposed strategies to the clients and gave me an idea about how I would deal with potential clients in the future. Having learned to analyze an actual business and propose new ideas helped me understand different factors that affect it. Having to develop an implantation plan made me look into how to tackle various other problems that a business can have from less staff to budgeting. This unit helped me learn how to be flexible with marketing plans and to always have a contingency plan. The timing is also crucial to a business’s new strategies and how to take in all factors when developing new marketing strategies. My assumptions about the unit at the beginning of the semester were that it would be all theoretical in nature, but it was practical as well and helped me gain world-life experience
